Kev Dhaliwal is Professor of Molecular Imaging and Healthcare Technology at the University of Edinburgh, Co-Director of the Baillie Gifford Pandemic Science Hub in the Institute of Regeneration and Repair, and a Consultant Physician in Respiratory Medicine. He was appointed Interim Director for Edinburgh Futures Institute in November 2023. Kev graduated from the University of Edinburgh and completed general professional training in London before returning to Edinburgh to undertake a period of consolidated laboratory research. During his PhD, he developed strategic partnerships across disciplines to take ideas and concepts into human trials and also worked with industry to commercialize his research. He works across multiple disciplines with an ethos of ‘team science’ and values of friendship, trust, and integrity, building and leading teams with values and culture at the heart of his approach.Kev’s research and innovation activities focus on developing new approaches spanning the 4Ds in health research: data, diagnostics, devices, and drugs. Collaborating widely with industry, he advocates for the need to work across scientific disciplines to translate research into compassionate, people-centered healthcare. He works closely with partners in India.His clinical practice is based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Both within his roles at the University and beyond, he is deeply involved in entrepreneurial ecosystems, company building and developing cross-sector and cross-institutional relationships.
