First GAIL Fellows appointed

We are pleased to announce the appointment of the first cohort of GAIL Fellows to University of Edinburgh's Generative AI Laboratory.

The GAIL Fellows, more than 40 in total, bring a diverse range of expertise from fields such as computer science, medicine, business, mathematics, chemistry and engineering.

This cohort will be introduced at a special event on 13 December, where the Fellows will present their research areas and plans for contributing to advances in Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) through a series of lightning talks.

The event, which will take place the Edinburgh Futures Institute, offers a unique opportunity for attendees to meet the fellows and delve into the exciting world of Generative AI applications across various disciplines.

The painting shows a person standing on a staircase made of green and pink cubes, symbolising a Penrose staircase, in a cosmic environment. The person is reaching towards a glowing cross-shaped structure emitting binary code, representing AI's reach into the future. Surrounding the figure are outlined boxes showing various elements, such as glasses, medical tools, a self-driving car, and financial symbols, interconnected by white lines.

Networking opportunities

The event will also serve as a valuable platform for networking, allowing researchers, academics, and other attendees to engage with one another and explore potential collaborations via the Generative AI Laboratory (GAIL). As Generative AI continues to transform various sectors, the knowledge exchange facilitated by such gatherings is invaluable.

This occasion not only celebrates the arrival of the incoming GAIL Fellows but also marks a significant step in fostering a robust community centred around innovative AI research at the University of Edinburgh.

A full list of the first GAIL Fellows will be posted soon. GAIL Fellows will continue to be appointed on a rolling basis and details on how to register your interest in becoming one can be found at the end of this page.
